Psalm 124 – The LORD Sustains
Date: 04 May 2010
“If the LORD had not been on our side—” (Ps 124:1a, NIV)
In the piano, the sustain pedal is one of the most, if not the most commonly used pedals by pianists. When the pedal is pressed, the dampers are removed and all the strings in the piano allowed to vibrate freely. The end result is an enriched piano tone that brings a powerful musical effect to any note.
The way the sustain pedal works is an amazing way to think about how the LORD loves us. As we allow ourselves to be captivated by the LORD’s strength, we free ourselves from being enslaved to the ways of the world. The Lord as Creator, knows man inside out. He knows that man can find no rest except in God alone. Only in the LORD can one be sustained, in the past, in the present and way into the future.
Let the LORD sustain us, and allow our whole being to become a beautiful music to God.
“Our help is in the name of the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Ps 124:8, NIV)
Thought: Who sustains us during the day? Who sustains us during the night? It is the LORD. There is no other.
